How to Recycle Your Old Content so You Don’t Have to Keep Coming Up With New Stuff
Even with all the changes in the digital marketing world, there is still no doubt that consistently creating high quality content should be a major part of your business’s marketing strategy. Whether you are writing blog posts for your website, images for Instagram or videos for Youtube, great content is crucial to a strong Search Engine Optimisation strategy and will help your company to boost their digital presence.
But anyone who has ever had anything to do with content knows that constantly going up with fresh ideas and topics to write about can be tough. When you have a million other tasks on your to do list, the challenge of coming up with new and informative content can be overwhelming.
So to save you some time and energy, we are going to let you in on a little tip. You can recycle your old content to save you from having to write new stuff all the time. That’s right! By following our simple steps you can re-purpose all those great articles and engaging blog posts that you have already written.
?Turn Your Old Articles into New Ones
The first step to repurposing your old articles is to establish which ones are worth using again. Articles that have quality content that is timeless are the best ones for this purpose. In technical terms, these articles are called evergreen content.
Once you have identified the articles you have in your library that are still relevant, you just need to reinvent them for a new post. There are a few ways that you can do this;
- turn multiple related articles into a new master list
- Expand on an already existing list and turn it into a series of articles
- Write an update of an old article or a follow up piece
- Respond to questions about an article
- Interview an expert for their opinion on an article
Re-Invent Old Content in a New Form
Another great way to give old content new life is to reinvent it into a new form. Not only does this allow you to reuse content that you have already written but it can be a great way to engage with new audiences who might not have responded to the content in it’s previous format. Ways that you can update your content in a new format include;
- Turning your blog post into a slideshow
- Creating an infographic to represent your content in a visual form
- For people who don’t want to read multiple blog posts, why not combine your posts into an e-book
- Make your blog post into a video tutorial
Syndicate Your Articles to Reach a Greater Audience
Content syndication is a method of republishing content on other sites in order to reach a broader market. Syndicating your content not only increases your reach and brand awareness, it also builds links and can help drive more traffic to your original article. Unlike duplicate content, syndicated posts always link back to where the article was originally posted to give credit. Syndication is a great way to get exposure to other website’s audiences but you should only syndicate to sites that are of higher authority than yours, and share content that is of interest to their audiences.
Some of the best platforms for syndicating your content include;
- Medium: Medium is a blogging offshoot of Twitter and was designed to give writers the opportunity to write more than the 140 characters they are limited to on twitter. The Medium community is very active so great posts can garner a lot of comments and social shares which can really help get you attention.
- Social Media Today: A syndication site in the classic sense, Social Media Today allows you to submit your content directly. Despite the name, they cover a wide range of topics plus the site is widely read and respected so can really help to expand your audience.
- Business 2 Community: Another great platform for sharing content, Business 2 Community allows you to share content about startups, content marketing, entrepreneurship and other business-related topics. Most notably, Business 2 Community syndicates content to major 3rd party publishers, increases the potential audience views for any content that you are able to share.
Of course there are many other ways to repurpose your old content, but that would make this a really long newsletter. If you would like to know more just give us a holler. You can reach us at [email protected]
