How To Be Recognized For Your Value

How To Be Recognized For Your Value

Have you ever thought that being really good at your job would be enough to get a promotion?

Just to be overlooked?

This is what happened to one of my clients, Clara.

She was brilliant at her job. She consistently delivered results, went above and beyond, and even helped her team members shine.

But when promotion time came, she was overlooked—again.

Why?

Clara thought that being excellent at her work was enough to move her career forward.

But the truth is, being great at your job only gets you so far.

?? Here’s what changed:

  • Clara stopped waiting to be noticed and started owning her career trajectory.
  • She made a key shift: building her influence and visibility in her organization.
  • One of the first things Clara did was share her wins more strategically. She didn’t brag, but she made sure her leadership knew how her work was driving results.
  • She also started networking intentionally, connecting with decision-makers and building relationships with mentors who could advocate for her.

The result?

Within months, Clara was tapped for a leadership role she’d been eyeing for years.

If you’re feeling stuck like Clara was, here’s one thing you can start doing today:

Share your contributions. When you accomplish something big, don’t assume people notice. Send a brief email to your boss outlining the impact of your work. Use data to back it up, and frame it in terms of how it supports the organization’s goals.

For example: "This week, I completed the client onboarding process for [Project Name], which will save the team 10 hours per week and improve efficiency by 25%. Let me know if you'd like more details on how we achieved this!"

You deserve recognition for the value you bring. Start showing it.

Ready to break the cycle and move closer to the promotion you deserve?

Comment and let me know how you’re planning to share your wins—I’d love to hear about it!
