How to recognize & overcome PROCRASTINATION

How to recognize & overcome PROCRASTINATION

Israel is back to work after ten days of Passover and a long vacation, during which even those who are not normally idle rested! (Even this is a planned part of our Jewish calendar, after all - these Jews are smart.)

As everyone knows, coming back after such a long break is HARD!

Procrastination, the world's most famous vice, stops us from getting back in the groove.

Can we determine what is happening to us, what prevents us from getting started, and why we put off our important and urgent matters so frequently?

I'm going to share with you 4 types of procrastination, which you can study to determine if there is one in your life and what you can do about it.

1. The first type is a lack of motivation. When we are ready for anything, we have time for everything except this very specific task.

This state is described by the fact that everything is fine, but the moment it is necessary to accomplish a certain task, it becomes horrifying.

It's physically painful!

Have you ever experienced similar feelings?

Each of these states has a legitimate reason - perhaps the goal you set for yourself is not your own, and therefore the tasks arising from it cause you disgust.

Perhaps someone imposed this task on you, so your motivation is zero since it is not for you, but for someone else.

You don't want to do it because you don't see the point.

?A better approach would be to reconsider the goal and the need for this task.

2. The lack of a resource is the second type.

There are several symptoms associated with this condition:

?? the thought of completing the task burdens the mind,

?- and it pulls to lay down and do nothing,

?- there is simply no physical energy to move,

?- even pleasant things are off-putting.

Most likely, you haven't had much rest, or you haven't recovered well from your last big goal and rushed into a new battle without protection or armor, as they did not have time to replenish their reserves.

?

?All you can do is give yourself a normal rest and do something pleasant to please yourself.

You need to get away from yourself and stop expecting success in every action - that is exhausting. Allow yourself to do nothing, sleep, walk, goof off, go somewhere, but not at work and not in a hurry to finish another task.

You can be sure that there will be a resource - will be a success. When you lack energy, you cannot move forward, but will stagnate, spending even more energy trying to change something!

3. The third reason is procrastination out of fear and discomfort before completing a task.

There may be signs that make your palms sweat and your heartbeat faster at the thought of this task, and that you are ready to do anything to avoid it.

This is because the task forces you to step out of your comfort zone and shake your footing.

?Find a way to bypass the moment of completing the task, or approach it differently, more calmly, thoughtfully, or get outside help.

It is, of course, possible to fight with yourself openly, forcing yourself to push through discomfort and fear - moving forward in small steps.

Such a struggle can further upset the balance of your inner support and make you doubt yourself, so I recommend that you do not go on a break while choosing a wiser path.

4. You put off / do not do what you should because you simply do not have a plan and have no idea what to do.

Are you aware of the state when there is a task, but you are not sure how to approach it. When you don't know where to start, you feel confused, and you believe that the goal is simply unattainable and that you will never be able to reach the summit of your desire.

In this case, you do not know where to start since the task is a project, that is, a chain of complex tasks that must be completed in a certain order, so the result is visible. You do not know where to start and how to build the chain.

?What you can do - learn how others have dealt with this issue, find someone who can help you develop a plan, and break the goal into smaller pieces.

In case you identify yourself or your behavior with a type of procrastination, don't worry, you can and should deal with this condition and I recommend starting by answering these three questions:

?1. What makes me procrastinate? Identify the condition that causes you to procrastinate

?2. Why do you procrastinate? - determine the reason for delaying this task.

?3. What are your feelings? Listen to the state of your mind and what is hindering you.
