Have you ever stopped to think about how productive you are or are becoming? What is productivity anyway and why does it matter to your progress?
At the very simplest level, productivity is how much you get done, not necessarily how much time you spend doing things. What of course matters is that your mindset and momentum focus on achieving stretch goals
In this newsletter I want to focus on getting your awareness around your own unique productivity cycle.... why? Well, if you get better at recognising how much time you spend and during that time, how much progress you make...then you're on the road to making the changes required to be... well, much more efficient, that means getting more done in less time, packing in a packed agenda and achieving your goals sooner that you had envisaged.
To help you get started (or perhaps get accelerated) let's look at some diverse patterns that influence personal productivity, unveiling the keys to unlocking our full potential in various aspects of life.
#Step 1: Morning Rituals
One of the most defining patterns of productivity lies in morning rituals. How we begin our day sets the tone for the hours ahead. Establishing a morning routine that includes activities like meditation, exercise, or goal-setting can boost energy levels, enhance focus, and create a sense of purpose. Starting the day on a positive note generates momentum that carries through tasks, inspiring greater productivity throughout the day. This can best be achieved by avoiding looking at negative news online or on tv.
Each person has unique peak performance hours—periods when they feel most alert and focused. Identifying these hours and scheduling complex or high-priority tasks during them can significantly improve productivity. Whether you are a morning person, night owl, or afternoon achiever, aligning your tasks with your peak performance times allows you to capitalise on your most productive moments.
Productivity patterns are closely tied to energy levels. Paying attention to how energy fluctuates throughout the day can help in planning tasks accordingly. Integrating short breaks and mindfulness exercises can refresh the mind and prevent burnout, allowing for sustained productivity. Learning to conserve and replenish energy becomes a crucial aspect of maintaining long-term efficiency.

Flow states, also known as being "in the zone," are periods of intense focus and creativity. Understanding the patterns that trigger flow can unlock immense productivity potential. Engaging in challenging yet enjoyable tasks, eliminating external interruptions, and finding the right balance between skill and challenge are some ways to access these states, allowing for remarkable productivity and creativity.
#Step 6: Reflection and Continuous Improvement
Recognising patterns in productivity involves periodic reflection and evaluation. Regularly reviewing achievements, analysing areas for improvement, and celebrating successes fosters a culture of continuous growth and increased productivity. Embracing a growth mindset encourages us to learn from setbacks and challenges, leading to refined patterns of productivity over time.
