How to Reclaim Your Health and Wellbeing by Aligning with Your True Nature

I just told my doctor, "I can’t believe how much better I feel!” I’ve been living in harmony with a sense of purpose for a few years now, and it's completely transformed my health and wellbeing. Like a crooked spine, living out of sync with my true nature for so many years caused a whole host of health issues that crept up on me. Out of fear and not knowing what to do I remained in complete denial that anything was wrong. All the while I was hard at work creating a future and a life that wasn't very fulfilling and was causing me physical discomfort.?

Years of wandering aimlessly in unsatisfying jobs led to the kind of internal tension that can lead to underlying health issues. Debilitating pain and a workers comp claim were the result—my lower back, forearms, and even my eyes were trying to tell me that something wasn't quite right.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Far too many people feel trapped in dead-end careers and all the while they’re unaware of the damage that it’s doing behind the scenes. Left unaddressed it can make life into a major struggle as it often leads to an unhealthy lifestyle as well.

The good news is that understanding your true nature is simple and creating the alignment that will bring relief can happen very quickly. You don’t have to quit your job or change your career to feel a lot better either. You just need to begin the process that will communicate to your subconscious mind that everything is going to be ok. That you are on the path to resolving this internal battle once and for all.

Here is what that process looks like.

  1. Take action and commit to changing your course. That can look like hiring a coach, signing up for an online course or buying a book that will provide you with the guidance necessary for determining the life and career that would be best suited for you.
  2. Begin the work of self-discovery. Start answering questions like "What am I really good at?" "What do I really enjoy doing?" "What is the work environment that would support me the most?" "What would my ideal lifestyle look like?"
  3. Start making changes to bring your life into greater alignment with what you've discovered. If you enjoy what you're doing for work but you'd feel much better working remotely for a different type of company then begin the networking process to see if you could land a more suitable job. If you're really talented at problem solving but you're in a role where that doesn't play a major role then start learning about other roles that would allow you to better leverage this ability. If you're someone who doesn't like living in a big city because you'd like to be somewhere quieter and with more nature then start looking into other places you could relocate to.
  4. Work on resolving any inner conflicts. Oftentimes the resistance that can result in physical pain is occurring largely in our own minds. Take some time in honest contemplation where you begin to observe your own attitude towards the work that you do and the people that you work with. Is there a pattern of resisting 'what is'? Is there a pattern of getting overly frustrated with authority? If so consider working with a therapist and/or beginning a meditation practice as a way to bring greater acceptance and peace of mind to your life.
  5. Make healthy and positive lifestyle changes. A poor diet and lack of exercise contributes significantly to how our bodies respond to stress. Make the effort to eat more whole foods and less processed foods. Aim to get 8 hours of sleep each night. Work in at least a few days of exercise each week ideally in the mornings as you start your day.
  6. Spend more time in nature. Being in nature, whether that's a trip to the beach, hiking through the woods or spending time up in the mountains does wonders for reducing stress and anxiety. When we take time to remove ourselves from the busyness and chaos of day to day life we allow our nervous system to reset. We feel rejuvenated by the soothing effects of immersing ourselves in the natural world.
  7. Cultivate healthy relationships. Make an effort to spend time with people who are supportive, encouraging and uplifting. Consciously begin distancing yourself from people who are overly negative, pessimistic or draining. Learn how to set boundaries as necessary. Become more active in your community as a way to meet new people.
  8. Indulge more in your hobbies. Hobbies provide the outlets for us to express all the parts of us that we just can't get from work. If you're a talented musician working as a project manager then make sure you're dedicating time each week to playing your instrument. If you don't you'll start to feel like something important is missing in your life.

I could go on and on about the all the different ways there are to start bringing your life back into balance and harmony. The point is that if you haven't been feeling your best it's ok. There is a clearly defined path available to you that will bring immediate relief the moment you commit to walking it. Then with each passing day you will start to feel better and better until one day you wake up and realize "I can't believe how much better I feel!"
