In this week's edition, I wanted to look at how much are we actively prioritising our time and look at a transformative approach to prioritisation that I thought about recently.
Take on 'the exit perspective' - Imagine you are going to leave your role next week. Look at your inbox, and to-do list through this lens. What tasks here would you actually handover to someone else? This thought experiment is powerful in highlighting non-essential tasks that clutter your mind and days. I'd bet that a good number of them end up simply being struck off!
The second lens you can apply is all-around delegation. What would make sense to delegate in a hypothetical exit scenario? This helps in recognising the tasks you should actually be delegating right now. It's about empowering your team and focusing on what only you can do.
These thoughts aren't about shirking responsibilities or simply reducing your workload, but about being strategic. It's easy to get caught up in the minutiae, especially in hospitality. Focus on what truly drives value for your business, team and customers.
Actionable Steps for Better Prioritisation:
Conclusion: As much as possible your time should be spent on what truly matters. By imagining your exit and what you'd hand over, you'll gain a clearer perspective on what's essential for your role. Let this guide your workload and open up a more focused, efficient, and successful operation.
