College is important, but learning doesn’t cease upon graduation. Employers report there is a skills gap, but not because of a lack of education. The top five things your employer is looking for are not things you will learn in a college class. Employers want job candidates with a good personality. You will have to demonstrate leadership, the ability to be a team player, good oral communication skills, problem solving ability, and good written communication skills.
When a job opening becomes available, in many cases there will be hundreds of resumes submitted for that job. Maybe ten to twelve people will get called in for a job interview. One person will get the job. So how do you make yourself stand out?
On your resume, it’s important to demonstrate a love of lifelong learning - do you belong to any clubs or organizations? Hobbies are important, too. Once you are in the interviewer’s office, interviewing the interviewer can make all the difference.

8 年Some really fantastic points, Brian. One that really stands out is 'Interview the Interviewer'. I can't tell you how many times I've heard an interview later say "Doesn't ANYONE bother to research the company before applying?" Intelligent questions about the company and the position can convey a great deal about an applicant. Great infographic!
