How realistic is Supercloud?

How realistic is Supercloud?

That’s the question that Chris Tozzi, adjunct research adviser for IDC, is raising in a recent article . He writes “In theory, supercloud would open amazing new doors in the realm of cloud computing. But is it actually feasible in practice to build a supercloud architecture? The answer remains unclear. Although the supercloud concept has generated a bit of chatter over the last year or two, no vendor has come close to developing solutions for actually creating a supercloud.”

No vendor has come close?

We respectfully disagree, dear Chris.

Supercloud aims for complete cross-cloud integration and migration without the need for reconfiguration, and the emma | Cloud Management Platform offers a practical solution that empowers businesses to seamlessly deploy, manage, migrate optimize, and govern workloads across true multicloud - on-prem, private, hybrid and public - environments with ease.

With emma, teams are freed from the complexities of mastering each cloud's nuances, as it simplifies these intricacies and provides a standardized dashboard, offering unified visibility and management. Supercloud can become a reality with emma , an agnostic cloud management platform, crucial in breaking down cloud silos and enabling all cloud environments to be treated as a cohesive whole, thereby preparing organizations for the next frontier in cloud computing.

Customers presumably end up paying more!

We respectfully disagree again, dear Chris.

The author highlights a significant concern: “But the problem there is that customers would end up locked into a supercloud platform owned by one vendor. They’d also presumably end up paying more because the vendor would effectively be reselling public cloud services and adding a premium.”

At emma, we prioritize “freedom and choice”. As an independent vendor, we are not affiliated with cloud service providers - like, e.g., Anthos is - or infrastructure companies such as Broadcom's VMware, Nutanix, or Cisco. Our users engage with our platform as long as they find value; if they don’t, they can easily return to their previous solutions. However, feedback from our existing customers suggests they rather enjoy the ‘emma way’ with no restrictions, lock-ins, or limitations. Still, our customers are always free to choose their own path – that’s the essence of what emma stands for.

Moreover, one of the key advantages of allowing users to select their providers and environments is the potential for cost savings. emma operates on a pay-as-you-go model, meaning there are no upfront fees or licensing costs. Users are only billed when they deploy infrastructure through the platform, which offers optimized workload placement and intelligent saving recommendations to enhance cost efficiency.

Utilizing emma, users can actually lower their overall spend by deploying workloads on more cost-effective platforms, whether within the same cloud or across multiple providers. Consequently, even with the added fee, our customers experience significant savings.

??????

Let's break it down:

If a customer currently spends $100 on their cloud infrastructure, using emma can typically reduce this cost by around 30%, bringing it down to $70.

emma charges a modest 9% fee (dynamic fee depending on infrastructure size) on the initial amount ($9, in this case), resulting in a total new cost of $79.

This translates to $21 in savings for the customer.

??????

And, while we may have differing views on the concept of 'supercloud,' we are sincerely grateful to Chris for reserving a spot for emma among the "14 Top Multi-Cloud Management Platforms for 2025," as highlighted by TechTarget .
