I hope this adds to the discussion. Society's Construction Industry narrative is inaccurate. It might be Nassim Taleb's "Black Swan" Problem. What has not been observed does not exist. For the Housing Construction critics, the top quartile of Home Builders is not well known. The bottom quartile is due to bankruptcy, front-page features, and shambolic job sites. As shown below in aggregated banking data, the best are 2 1/2 to 5 times better than the lowest performing. These excellent housing constructors do not draw attention to themselves. Scrutiny does not help their business model—it keeps insights from competitors and their great employees from being recruited. Taleb indirectly advises those interested in improving housing outcomes: They should spend the effort to find a group of these great firms and ask them what would help them fill the void in housing in Australia.
