How to read three books a week ??

Hi Readers,

Back to school, back to school, to prove to dad I’m not a fool.

Every time I head back to work, the iconic words of Billy Madison ring through my ears, and it’s compounded by the fact that literally no one else is at work in Australia. Perhaps I’m the fool.

We’re now into the later stages of developing the podcast with over 8 episodes in the bank. Our launch date will be revealed over the coming week, but in the meantime I’m interested to hear your thoughts on what would be the ultimate launch prize. Something that you, yourself, could ideally win.

How to read three books a week

I feel like I’m starting to become a mouthpiece for Tim Ferriss, but he does really have a lot of useful pieces around increasing your intelligence. Case in point; how to read not only fast & effectively. I purposely do not have a TV connected to free-to-air or cable TV, (only apps like Netflix), because I want to remove any roadblock towards reading 1–2 hours per day. Now that I’ve removed the roadblock, I’ve been focusing on two things; speed, and effectiveness. At the current rate I’m reading around 1–4 books per month (depending on size), but by merely using my peripheral vision I’ve been able to increase that to around 4–6 (I want to ensure I can comprehend at speed). However, I’ve found that also culling and rationalising why I’m buying a book is incredibly effective. When buying from my Amazon list I never triple up on book topics, ensure that I’m reading just in time (not just in case)?—?a tool that even Elon Musk uses. This article is worth the read for those wanting to improve their rational thinking.

Wikipedia’s ‘Unusual Articles’ list

I feel like I’m starting to get into the truly weird and wonderful by trying to find useful articles for you all every week. Unusual Articles, a curated list by Wikipedians is brilliant. As Wikipedia notes; “these articles are verifiable, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia, but are a bit odd, whimsical, or something you would not expect to find in Encyclop?dia Britannica”. Find the steepest street in the world, unusual deaths, disputes over the “most German” script by the Nazi’s, weird last names (lots of Fuchs), buttered toast phenomenon & more?—?do try it!

Real-life Problems; animated answers

Wendover Productions is one of those brilliant channels on YouTube that’s probably at the stage before some uber famous tech/business leader finds them and makes their channel explode. Wendover cover intriguing questions and problems that affect the world around us, with a particular penchant for discussion on air & space travel in an animated format. They’ve now completed a few collaborations with another brilliant channel (Real Engineering). Start with this video of every country in the world.

How to be a minimalist

This is one of those brilliant documentaries by Netflix that will be watched for many years to come. Every year I look to prevent myself purchasing mindless crap, instead focusing on experiences across each year?—?a hard task in this ubiquitous and abundant age. For those who continue to find themselves in a mindless vacuum of stuff, this documentary can be a real wake up to what fulfillment in your life should look like. The documentary at times can come across cultish, something blatantly obvious from this movement, so take some of the comments with a grain of salt, but use this as a way of gathering perspective?—?it is not the final solution. If you like this sort of material then I strongly suggest checking out Alan Watts or The Feynman Series on YouTube.
