How to reach out for support
When we’re battling inner demons, it might be tempting to retreat into our shells. But here’s why you should consider reaching out for help instead.?
?A crucial element in our mental wellbeing is our social circle and how well they are able to support us through our struggles with mental health.?Studies have shown?that even a brief encounter with a friend can do wonders for our sense of wellbeing. It can also boost the degree of closeness you feel with them. This is because our friends provide us with the much-needed perspective, sense of groundedness, and resilience to help take us through our problems. They also offer a compassionate acceptance of who we are - something that becomes hard for us when we're mentally ill.
?? The next time you feel like retreating, how about finding the courage to reach out for support instead? If you still feel unsure, you could consider asking them: "Is it possible for you to listen to something that is currently stressing me out?" If they do, find a place you both feel comfortable in and talk to them about it.
