Corrosion is a global dilemma
According to a statistical report on natural gas pipeline accidents in Russia from 1980 to 2013, external corrosion-caused failure accounts for 33.0 percent of all accidents, while internal corrosion-caused failure accounts for 6.9 percent. Similarly, in the case of onshore gas transmission pipelines in the United States, a statistical analysis revealed that third-party interference, external corrosion, material failure, and internal corrosion caused more than 75% of pipeline accidents.
