As we head toward a well-earned break for the holidays and new year, I’ve been thinking a lot about how new ideas often emerge at this annual juncture. Do any of these ring true to your thoughts about the new year ahead?
- You’re thinking of changing jobs.
- You’re considering moving out of the city.
- You just have the urge to discover something new and exciting.
All of these have something in common: they require us to quit on something or someone.?Quitting gets such a bad rap.?As legendary football coach Vince Lombardi said, “Winners never quit, and quitters never win. It’s simply not true:?the skill of knowing when and what to quit needs rethinking.

- Shortly after I turned 14, I decided to quit competitive swimming. The relentless, early-morning training sessions and the weekend meets meant giving up a lot of other things I wanted to do. The response from teachers, friends, and other family members was “Why are you quitting?†My decision was perceived as giving up, a form of failure.
- The Latin root for quit is quietus which means “free,†or “to put to rest, be quiet.†I love the idea of quitting being a release from something.
- Quitting can create the space to discover something new — to spend time on different things that matter.
“The heroes are the ones who persevere beyond the point of physical or emotional or mental wellbeing in order to push past that, and like, cross the chasm.†- Annie Duke

2 年#Job #quits in the United States rose to 4.17 million in November 2022. The “quits rate†increased to 2.7 percent. This means that businesses may need to pay more to retain their current employees and hire new ones. Job openings remain robust. #recessionless

2 å¹´This reminds me of my past Coaching for a Little League Girls Softball team. I was the first to volunteer as the Team Coach, but one of the players mom also wanted to be the Coach! The Division chair gave the Ok for two Coaches on one team, bad Idea not that the idea would not because it opened up not one leader but two, I allowed the girls to chew gum, she didn't, I allowed hands when they needed to use the restroom and she didn't they were suppost to hold it in until she felt they waited long enough? I had weekly trials for pitcher position, she appointed her daughter no choices. I saw the stress in the girls faces because of the differences in leadership. She would not talk about one of us stepping down and becoming assistant coach, my own daughter was not on my own team. So I decided to step down as coach and became assistant coach, but she carried, her negative approach two far girls were leaving the team to join other teams. Myself also, no need to stay in a losing team, her team finished last in the Division and she never learned anything years later, I tried every effort to stay in but some times it maybe best choice to just Quit!

2 å¹´Quitting is all a mindset. I quit drinking and nicotine after 30 years using. I quit cold turkey. Been sober over 5 years from alcohol and almost a year tobacco. If you are wanting to quit something and you are having failure after failure, then you don't want it bad enough. End of story!

2 å¹´This comes as a timely message to me. I recently have come to the conclusion that many things make us busy in life but aren't as important to achieving our goals. Quitting these things to make room for more important things is like reducing the amount of junk food in my diet to make more room for healthy foods. It's focusing more on what matters and achieving your goals that are a priority. To use limited resources to build focus in what's most important.
