How to Put Together a First Aid Kit for Your Home

A first aid kit is a box or bag where supplies used to treat minor injuries are kept. Minor injuries that could be managed with a first aid kit include burns, eye irritations, bruises, cuts, scrapes, scalds, and sprains. Some first aid kits may also be used for life-saving emergencies and trauma injuries like gunshot wounds, stab wounds, and deep cuts.?

First aid kits are essential, so we have gone through some of the things you would need to put together to make one for your personal use.?

Absorbent dressings: Absorbent dressings can soak in large amounts of fluid, keeping it away from the wound and surrounding skin. Different absorbent dressings are suitable for damages or injuries with mild, moderate to heavy amounts of exudate. You would need about two absorbent dressings for your kit.

Adhesive bandages: Bandages are used to hold dressing firmly over a wound to create enough pressure to prevent bleeding. They are also used to support injured body parts and secure a split to an injured part of the body. You should have about twenty to thirty adhesive bandages in your first-aid kit.

Adhesive cloth tape: The adhesive cloth tape is durable and flexible in applying good pressure when used in first-aid.?

Antibiotic ointment packets: The antibiotic ointment helps improve the healing of wounds. It also prevents infections in cuts, burns, and scrapes. You will need about five packs of antibiotic ointment.

Antiseptic wipe packets: Antiseptic wipes are helpful in cleaning wounds and the skin surrounding them. Once an injury is appropriately cleaned, healing can begin. Ointments and bandages can also be applied on wounds after the antiseptic wipe has been used in cleaning. You will need about five packets of the antiseptic wipe.

Packets of pain killers: Pain killers can help relieve minor aches, pains, and fevers. Some painkillers can also help bring down a high temperature.

Emergency blanket: Emergency blankets are made of materials that can keep you warm. They can trap up some of the heat radiated by the body, which is usually dispersed into the environment.

Breathing barrier: Breathing barriers are used to protect a caregiver from exposure to infection when close contact with someone ill.?

Instant cold compress: The instant cold compress relieves pain, swelling, and bumps caused by minor burns, insect stings, toothaches, sprains, contusions, and strains.?

Non-latex gloves: Gloves are used in handling ointments and chemicals properly. They also prevent exposure to dangerous microbes.

Hydrocortisone ointment packets: The hydrocortisone ointment works by activating natural substances in the skin to relieve swells, itches, redness, and other forms of discomfort.

Gauze roll: The gauze roll is used in packing and dressing wounds. They can also be used with flexible medical tape as a band-aid.

Roller bandage: The roller bandage is used to keep the dressing in shape.

Sterile gauze pads: The gauze pads are used in cleaning up and absorbing blood or drops of blood. You can have about five pads in your first-aid kit.

Oral thermometer: The oral thermometer is usually placed in the mouth. It is used to measure the body's heat and take the body temperature.

Triangular bandages: Triangular bandages are primarily used as large dressings and support limbs.

Emergency phone numbers: You should have some numbers of people you can contact in emergency cases.

It would be best if you always remembered to check the expiry date of some of the products you are adding to your first-aid box.
