Section 501 (c)(3) entities are notoriously skittish about advocating on their own behalf and/ or the societal changes that would allow those they serve to improve their quality of life.  But, as Venable highlights, that need not be the case.

The Center for Nonprofit Studies is convening a special, full-day event - Worry Free Advocacy for Texas Nonprofits - in September 13, 2016. 

Its focus is on  how nonprofits can bring the concerns of their communities to policy makers and elected officials and help inform and encourage voters safely. Access to healthcare, environmental justice, workers’ rights and border security– these are just a few of the critical issues elected officials may consider next session. They need to hear the voices of nonprofit organizations and their constituents!  This event will address the legal rules associated with nonprofit advocacy so that groups can boldly speak out about the causes they care about.  It will also include a post-lunch legislative briefing regarding the issues that will most likely be the topics of proposed reforms when the Texas Legislature goes back to work in 2017.
