How to Protect Best People from Nonsense.
You may have seen this chart in You Get More than What You Pay For where this chart is explained and sourced.
The point of this article is different.
We can not match the output of top performers with proportional compensation - because of the realities of the job market and of the corporate world.
The best people know this reality.
That's why when they do quit, the disparity between their output and the compensation is NOT the root cause.
They do need to know that you are doing your best within your own constraints, and that in the end you give them the best compensation you can master.
What drives them away is something else - nonsense.
As we can see, there are many types of destructive nonsense.
It is NOT enough to simply avoid nonsense as many leaders try to do.
Just like, doing good is not simply avoiding evil. Good is proactive. So is good leadership.
In this regard I find this diagram precious - it highlights the proactive posture of good leadership.
To bring this all together -
Simple nonsense avoidance does NOT work. Nonsense is a symptom of a disease, just like cough.
The disease is bad leadership.
The cure is, first and foremost, being ourselves - nice human beings that we are - at work:
kind, authentic, caring, thoughtful, brave, methodical and trustworthy.

7 年No one is getting paid enough. Infact, enough has no limit for some employees. You are always working 10 times more than your salary and thats the equation for successful business unfortunately.
