How to Promote Jobs through LinkedIn Company Updates
One way to make your Job Posts on LinkedIn reach a larger audience is to promote them via Company Updates. However, just clicking share on a job post will note be very effective: this will result in a dull promotion that will fail to grab readers attention or inspire them to take action.
If you are going to promote jobs via Company Updates on LinkedIn, then you need to get creative. I have collected some examples to provide you some inspiration.
But first some words of caution: promote jobs through Company Updates very sparingly. Your Company's first objective with Content Marketing on LinkedIn is to develop strong relationships by solving members problems and providing content that is valuable to their professional lives and career development. Pushing lots of promotional content is likely to be counter-productive. For most companies, I would reserve this for key, hard to fill roles, if at all. For Recruitment Agencies, it is reasonable to post more jobs - amongst other content - as jobs also showcase what you do.
Your company's first objective with Content Marketing on LinkedIn is to develop strong relationships by solving members problems and providing content that is valuable to their professional lives and career development. However, if you are providing lots of valuable content, it is okay to promote the occasional key job.
So get creative, but use sparingly.
1. Humour
Recruitment Agency Digital Gurus do a great job of using humour relevant to the role they are promoting. The strong images are also attention grabbing.
This one from Sydney based IT Recruitment Agency, Citi Recruitment:
2. Bold Graphics
Create a bold graphic promotion for the job. Include some details on the role in text overlay.
3. Video
Video works. It is highly engaging and allows you to present a richness of information that words and images alone cannot convey.
You can embed a video in the post so that it can be played in the Linkedin newsfeed without opening a new page.
The above two examples feature a person talking about the job with simple graphics overlaid in post production.
An alternative approach could be to use a culture video to focus on the company culture. Interested individuals can click through to the Job Post to get the details of the job.
Embedding SlideShare is another approach that is straight forward to implement using existing tools and would be highly effective.
4. Use News
Why not celebrate big wins or awards and use these as an opportunity to advertise that you are hiring.
Currently, few companies are using Company Updates effectively for job promotion - some are not deploying this tactic; some are deploying it too frequently; and others are not being thoughtful or creative in how they execute. So there is room to stand out by being creative. In particular, I would love to see more companies using video and SlideShare.
