Imagine that your production plant having a failure, like some valves breaked or a problem to some pumps! These problem COULD LEAD TO TERRIBLE CONSEQUENCES IF NOT CONSIDERED USING AN APPROPRIATE RISKS ASSESSMENT!!! In fact, many historical accidents could be avoided with appropriated studies about what could be the hazardous event if something during production going out of control!
Today, with in-depth studies already in the design phase, we can reduce risks in industrial processes that could lead to consequences for people, environmental impact and economic loss.
Target of these studies is to identify and to evaluate the hazardous scenarious as possible source of harms and to identify if existing safeguards levels are enough or it's needed an additional Safety Safeguard.
Just for example; for overpressure the PSV (pressure safety valve) is a very robust safeguards but, unfortunately, since we are talking about real instruments, all safeguards have a probability of failure. Therefore a determination of probability of failures against hazardous event is mandatory in order to be sure that risk will be removed!
For this purpose normally are applied two standards related the design of Safety Safeguards for Process Industries: IEC61508 and IEC61511.
