How to prevent frequent app updates for end-users

A well-thought app-architecture should always prevent frequent updates for end-users. Some studies say, that to maintain a good user experience an app update should be rolled out with 7+ days interval.

Usecase: A loyalty rewards based application having 5M+ installs on Playstore rolls out updates every 3 - 4 days, causing end users to reach out to Playstore to update the app so that earned points can be redeemed using the new app version.

The above use case can also be handled with the help of REST APIs, if the app structure is defined in such a way that predefined APIs only can update the app UI, minimizing the app level code handling and omitting the need to send an app version update on Playstore every now & then.

This is a classical approach for SAAS based solutions having multiple apps deployed on a core platform while providing the app updates with the help of APIs only.
