How can a President ruin your morning croissant

This morning, like every other morning, I woke up and opened a French well-known newspaper called Le Monde (The World).

And lately The world, the real one, sometimes seemed to turn sideways. But hey this is just my opinion and my opinion doesn’t really count now, does it?

No, an opinion that counts however is the opinion of the president of a 330-million people country. A country where CO2 emissions rate 2nd worldwide. A place where consumption, if replicated in every other country would necessitate 4 extra Earth planets.

So this morning, like every other morning, I woke up and opened my French well-known newspaper called Le Monde. And boy, that first headline struck me hard. It said,

“Trump accuses pollution-control standards to cause road deaths”

?Yes. The President of the United States of America is telling The World that, according to a report of his own administration, pollution-control standards increase the cost of vehicles, hence diminish the probability for new cars to be bought by consumers, leading to more deaths in insecure old-aged vehicles. They also highlight that lately cars have been made lighter hence less secure than good ol’ heavy and polluting vehicles.

Right. Not only these two arguments eliminate each other, but the President of the United States of America is telling us that in his country, engineers are not smart enough and security norms not good enough to ensure that today’s less-polluting and lighter cars are as (if not more) secured as before.

Well, my opinion does not really count but since his opinion is just so much off, I’ll just give it anyway.

On people who don’t believe in climate change: I’m fine with that. Really. I mean, some choose to believe in a God they have never seen. So why should we believe in something that happens on our doorsteps every day, right?

As for us, young people of this world and future major industry players: I plead we will always remember what is at stake. Whether it is when we choose a company to work for, a deal to make, or a process to change.

Because there is definitely a better world to create, but if it continues like this, there will only be a world to rebuild.
