Immersive sessions are a great way to engage your team and foster creativity.
Whether you're planning a brainstorming session, a team-building exercise, or a training workshop, here are some tips to help you prepare your team for an immersive experience:
- What is your Spark: Clearly communicate the purpose and goals of the session to your team. This will help them understand what is expected of them and stay focused throughout the session. A prepared audience is worth a million - meaning, if they are prepared, the session will flow and you will achieve what you want.
- Find your tribe: Divide your team into smaller groups and assign specific roles to each member. This will encourage collaboration and ensure that everyone is actively participating. You can have a facilitator, co-facilitator, producer, analyst reporter, photographer, videographer - whatever you need! Bring experts if needed and external ambassadors to speak up.
- Schedule energy boosters: Immersive sessions can be mentally and physically demanding. Be sure to schedule regular breaks to give your team a chance to recharge and reflect on their progress.
- Provide Resources: Equip your team with the necessary tools and resources they will need during the session. This could include whiteboards, markers, sticky notes, or even access to online research materials/boards. Embrace the digital Gen for the God's sake design digital sessions - I prefer all virtual for efficiency and profitability and in-person for teaming.
- Share Expectations: Let your team know what you expect from them during the session. This could include active participation, open-mindedness, and a willingness to share ideas. Also, dress code - be comfy, bring your sneakers in, and please don’t be in your suit!
- Foster a Positive Environment: Create a safe and supportive space where your team feels comfortable taking risks and sharing their thoughts. Encourage open communication and be receptive to feedback - and always call out the elephants in the room!
- Celebrate Success: Recognize and celebrate your team's achievements throughout the session. This will help maintain motivation and keep morale high.
