How to Prepare for Your Loved One's Doctor's Visits

Accompanying a loved one to their doctor's appointments is a common responsibility for many caregivers. Whether it's taking them in for a scheduled checkup or squeezing in an emergency visit, it's always important to stay prepared. The Alzheimer's Association shares their advice how you can do this.

1. Prepare for each visit.

If you're accompanying your loved one to a regular checkup, don't forget to plan ahead! How can you do this? By writing down questions you have for the doctor, writing down any changes in your loved one's behavior, or even bringing a list of their medications with you. Place this information (and anything else you find important) in a folder or notebook that you can easily bring with you to these appointments.

2. Communicate with the doctor.

As the caregiver for your loved one, it's important that you are aware of all that there is to know about their health. One way to do this is by asking questions. If you're unsure about your loved one's treatment or diagnosis, don't hesitate to express this to the doctor. This will help you to keep accurate records of your loved one's health. Make sure to always update these records any time changes are made.

3. Schedule a follow-up appointment.

Make sure to schedule the next doctor's appointment for your loved one before you leave. Follow-up appointments are especially important if your loved one is undergoing a new treatment method or is taking new medications. This way, the doctor can closely monitor their progress.

The Alzheimer's Association shares more on how caregivers can get ready for their loved one's doctor's appointments. As always, it's important to prepare in a way that makes it easier for you and your loved one!
