How to prepare for results day

How to prepare for results day

A level and T Level results day is on the 15 August, with GCSE results following the week after on 22 August. Waiting for important things like exam results can be an anxious time, so we have some advice on how to prepare for the big day.

In the lead-up to results day

Seek advice. Family and friends are a good starting point to talk about how you're feeling and what you want from your future. Go through all the options you are considering and think about the benefits of each. Family and friends can often be emotionally invested in your future, so it’s also a good idea to seek out neutral advice. The National Careers Service can offer just that via the tools on our website , or through our helpline which provides free, impartial, and personalised careers information, advice and guidance from expert careers advisers. The helpline will be open between Thursday 15th August until Saturday 31st August 2024.

Make the most of the time leading up to results. This is the perfect opportunity to research your dream career, work on your CV, or even try some work experience. It is important to remember that there is often more than one route into most careers. Take some time to look at the option that will work best for you.

On results day itself

Make yourself a plan. Start by finding out your school, college or sixth form’s policy on collecting your results. Decide if you want to go in person or, if you have the option, receive them online or via email. Think about who you want to be with when you open your results. Avoid putting any unnecessary pressure on yourself by deciding on a game plan and sticking to it.?

The most important thing is not to panic. Whether you get the results you expect or not, you have plenty of options. The best thing you can do is to stay calm and focus your energy on figuring out your next steps, and making the most of the support that’s there for you. Remember, you can call us on 0800 100 900 if you want some advice and guidance from a careers adviser once you have received your results.
