How to prepare for networking at events

Networking is a powerful tool for expanding business contacts, engaging customers and finding new opportunities. When you skillfully use a professional connections network, you can find valuable contacts, get information, find employees or even potential partners. However, successful networking does not happen by accident. It requires preparation and strategy. So let's talk about how to prepare for networking events.

1. Get to know the participants.

Before the start of the event, study the list of participants. If available, check out their social media profiles (such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) or the event website. This will help you to identify potential contacts you want to meet. Check out their functions, companies and projects they represent. You will be ready for targeted networking at the event that way.

2. Develop your "elevator pitch".

An elevator pitch is a short, reverse description of yourself that can be told in a few minutes. It should contain basic data about you, your company or project you want the potential interlocutor to remember. Try to speak out about your unique value, what you offer and how you can be useful to others.

3. Be open and proactive.

Communicate actively with other participants at events. Do not be afraid to initiate the conversation and ask questions. Be an attentive listener and show interest in other people. Try to find common topics for discussion and build a mutually beneficial relationship. Do not forget that networking is about interacting and sharing valuable information.

4. Add a bright detail to your outfit.

It is important to stand out from other people and attract attention so that others want to ask about your accessories or clothes. At one time in Ukraine, at events, I added the EvoTalents | Recruitment Agency brooch to my outfit. It was not just a logo, but a beautiful girl riding a unicorn. It was very easy for people to approach me and start talking about the badge. Shortly after I could calmly talk about the agency, about what this girl means to our team and how we created this character. This is something that is remembered, so such additions to your look can definitely be used.

5. Do not forget about business cards and post-visit communication.

Prepare your business cards and do not forget to take them with you to the event. After communicating with new people, do not delay with feedback. Send a quick email or offer to meet for coffee so that you can continue your further communication.

Preparing for networking events can take some time and effort, but it is worth it. Meeting and making valuable professional connections can open up new opportunities and contribute to your personal and career growth.
