How to practice retro medicine

How to practice retro medicine

Do you miss the good old medical practice days? While you might, most of us know that they weren't all that good for patients or doctors. Quality suffered, "unsustainable" costs increased, the experience had lots of friction, access was inequitable and occasionally your horse went lame. Plus ca change....

But if you are suffering from technofatigue and the rapid pace of change, here are a few things you can do to get you back into the Golden Age spirit:

  1. Visit the Museum of Physician Happiness
  2. Use business cards
  3. Wear a tie to work
  4. Send hand written thank you notes instead of creating them on ChatGPT
  5. Pick up the phone
  6. Tell your friend's kids why their babies should grow up to be doctors
  7. Encourage mentees to stop working for The Man and go into private practice
  8. Thrive in the new Golden Age
  9. Don't let credentialitis and school get in the way of your education
  10. Say please and thank you to a patient or a referring physician
  11. Rediscover the The Lost Tribe of Medicine
  12. Tell your teachers and mentors how much you appreciate them
  13. Listen to nurses
  14. Enjoy teaching medical students and residents
  15. Play nice with others and find joy in the practice of medicine. Smile more.

Please be well. Thank you for referring Ms Bailey. I appreciate your confidence in our practice. I appreciate you and thanks for the baked chicken casserole.
