How Powerful Is Your Passport?

Welcome back! This week we take a look at premium-class travel, learn about the most powerful passports in the world, take a deep dive into cabin waste, and sneak a peek at the upcoming World Safety and Operations Conference. Let's get to it.

A Smarter Approach For Cabins

Did you know the average passenger generates roughly 0.94 kg of waste per flight, with around 34% of it being untouched food and drink?

Without regulatory changes that support reduction, reuse and recycling, these figures will increase as demand grows.

IATA supports the simplification and harmonization of cabin waste regulations and promotes technical solutions that will reduce industry costs and contribute to the circular economy.

Chart of the Week: The Resurgence of Premium-Class Travel

Business and first-class (premium) passengers constitute a mere 3% of all travelers, yet they play a pivotal role in airlines’ revenue streams.

Premium fares, which are approximately five times higher than economy fares on average, contribute significantly – about 15% – to passenger revenue (excluding ancillary income).

A boost to premium bookings is particularly encouraging for airlines' financial performance given that first and business-class fares have remained relatively more expensive in recent months.

This positive trend may indicate the resurgence of corporate travel – coinciding with a robust restart of the corporate travel cycle.
