How Positive & Negative Mentors Help Us Upgrade Beliefs

How Positive & Negative Mentors Help Us Upgrade Beliefs

Beliefs must be broken before they can be replaced.

The writer in me hates the passive voice of that sentence, but the breaking of beliefs often happens?to?us. Think of an old belief like a brown egg, and think of a certain abrupt moment that, like a tiny brass hammer, cracks the egg with a?tink.

Such moments find us when we aren’t looking for them. Such moments can be precipitated both by people we admire and by Negative Mentors.

The sooner you make the unconscious conscious, the sooner you can start growing into your full potential.

Okay, that sounded hippie dippy. Let’s try again.

You can’t outperform your beliefs. You have to know what they are before you can upgrade them.

Hi, I'm Austin, a writer, brand consultant, and freelance coach.

I started freelancing after finishing my M.A. in Literature and getting laid off from a marketing agency. Freelancing led to mobile apps (Bright Newt), a tech startup (Closeup.fm), a children's book (Grabbling), and a branding studio (Balernum).?

I love teaching freelancers and consultants how to stack up specific advantages for more income, free time, and fun. My wife and I live with our wrecking balls and two cats in Knoxville, Tennessee, near the Great Smoky Mountains.

You can learn more at?FreelanceCake.com. You can also connect with me on?Twitter.

Very interesting read Austin and something that isn't talked about enough. Most often, it's not the strategies or resources that are lacking, but beliefs that hold us back. Despite being very good at what I did, I always questioned why someone (a client) would want to work with me. I sometimes still do. But things changed radically for me when I realised that my mindset was holding me back and I felt sad at how much time I wasted.
