Award nights are a great event when you create the right atmosphere and hype. The evening is full of nerves, excitement, lots of selfies and countless applause. Everybody has worked hard on their award submissions and is dressed to impress, so it’s only right to try and put on the best evening you can. Let's go through some dos and don'ts of award events.
- No rock-hard butter - nobody enjoys destroying their bread roll!
- Give plenty of notice to the caterers on dietary requirements.?
- Make sure you have great options for vegans and vegetarians, as well as meat eaters!
- Welcome drinks are a nice touch to the event and get people in the mood. But remember, not everyone is a fizz lover so be sure to have some classy alternatives.
- Make sure the drinks on the table include non-alcoholic options as well as alcohol.
- Consider offering table service for drinks to keep as many people in the room as possible.
- Don’t get distracted by the beauty of large table centres. They will block people's view of each other as well as the stage.
- Consider adding repeater screens if some tables are quite far from the stage.
- Check with the venue for a deal on accommodation for your guests so people can celebrate (or commiserate) in style!
- Not sure what entertainment to go with? The venue can recommend stage talent, walkaround entertainers, photographers etc.
- If you have a lot of awards to give out, don’t put all of them together, have breaks in between to keep the mood up.
- Leave time for talking and networking.
- Have realistic expectations of how long it will take to complete dinner service if you have hundreds of guests.
- Close the night with a party on the dance floor.
Bring everything together
Try to give one month’s notice on final details to your venue and a minimum of two weeks’ notice on final numbers. Finally, don’t forget to order your award trophies!
