Picking The Right Indirect Bonding Lab – Tips, Tricks & Workflow
IDB (Indirect Bonding) ensures a qualified Orthodontic Consultant is making sure that each tooth gets the right positioning of the brackets. This means less time in the chair while the braces are being bonded.
Before you pick your lab, it is important to know whether you will be given a Digital STL File. This differs from a screenshot, as it is a 3D render of the mouth that can be moved around and flipped, allowing you to approve the bracket positioning ahead of time, much like Invisalign, instead of having to do it on the day.
A lot of labs do not have this step, which means they do not offer digital placement. This means you as a doctor must do the bonding because you have not approved the brackets ahead of time, which may be an inconvenience.
Now that you have approved it, ask the IDB lab to go ahead and fabricate the model. They will then 3D print the transfer tray, allowing you to do your etch and prime as you normally would, placing the bracket in the middle of the tooth. Then you simply apply a small blob of trans bond (not global) in the back of each bracket, applying it a small section at a time to make the workflow easier.
Then, all you need to do is peel the tray off, put the wire in and you are done.
The IDB lab we use is unbranded, which means you won’t find it. So, if you need a recommendation, just get in touch and we will put you in touch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGmPt6sBM94&t=15s
