How Physical Fitness Helps with Mental Fitness

I recently watched some of the Olympics events and was instantly inspired to become stronger and fitter. As we grow older, it would be so good to build a better immune system and reduce risks to chronic health and other age-related problems. But it’s not just that. Watching champions crush sporting events with so much pressure on their shoulders is also inspiring to watch. Their entire country, families, and friends are all waiting with the hope to see them bring back a medal. Athletes constantly have to battle pressure yet their focus and determination are on the game. This was the highlight of the Olympics games because when you see athletes following the mantra “mind over matter”, it’s truly empowering.?

That made me think of how important physical activity is in everybody’s lives. Especially with so much going on around the world, staying active and keeping ourselves sane has become a top priority. One of the best ways to do that is by indulging in a good exercise session on a regular basis. In fact, my team and I did this activity during our short team-building session earlier this year. We did Tabata workouts and a small trek. I also love adding hands-on training exercises in my sales training as well.?

Fight Depression and Anxiety

You may already know the benefits of doing exercise on a regular basis. Research papers prove that exercise helps fights depression and anxiety.?

Biologically speaking, exercises act as a mood booster by elevating levels of happy hormones also known as endorphins. It’s a chemical that’s produced by the brain and spinal cord.?

Even just moderate exercise can help improve depression and anxiety. Even doctors highly recommended exercises before turning to medication for a specific health issue.?

Reduce Stress

So much stress has taken over our lives. From work to business to juggling family, it’s slowly eating us up. Increasing your heart rate can actually reverse stress-induced brain damage by stimulating the production of neurohormones. Exercise can give you the ability to build a strong armor against stress and the capability to do anything that comes your way.

Boost Self-Confidence

Exercise and good diet help with improving stamina, weight loss, improving self-image. This boosts your self-confidence which may help in important zoom meetings such as sales pitches, client meetings, etc.?

Much Better Sleep

Last but not least, better sleep. If you have ever suffered from insomnia, exercise can help improve both the quantity and the quality of sleep. It also helps regulate your circadian rhythm, our bodies’ built-in alarm clock that controls when we feel tired and when we feel alert.

For many people, exercise can be intimidating. It’s totally understandable. Even I myself find it hard to accommodate exercise in a busy schedule. But when you start treating exercise like brushing your teeth, your mindset towards it will change. Even 5 mins of sweat time with exercise will yield good long-term results, especially for your mental health.?
