How To: Password Reset for Active Directory Users (Windows Enterprise Environments)
I took the time to install and configure and active directory domain controller in Hyper-V on my system to cover a critical skill required by the help desk. Remember to two-factor verify the teammate before going through this process!
Step 1: Establish a remote connection to the server.
Step 2: Login to the server with your active directory account or as administrator.
Step 3: You may or may not see this screen, if you do then connect anyways.
Step 4: Server Manager should open up automatically, if not then open it.
Step 7: Click "Tools" and then click "Active Directory Users and Computers"
Step 8: Expand the node for your domain and right click the users folder, then click find.
Step 9: Type in the teammates name in the name field and click "Find Now"
Step 10: Teammate should show up in the search results.
Step 11: Right click and click reset password.
Step 12: Reset the password to something that is simple to communicate and satisfies the companies password policies. Do not ask the teammate for a password. I am going to show you how to force him to change his password the next time he logs in.
Step 13: double click the users account.
Step 14: Click the "Account" Tab
Step 15: Check "User must change password at next logon"
Click OK and done. That's an AD Password Reset!
