Why Passion Projects Are Good for Business

Over the years, I’ve seen how these pursuits can spark creativity, build confidence, and even enhance professional performance. Let me share a quick story.

One of our long-time team members joined Vintage IT while running a side hustle as a wardrobe stylist. We didn’t just encourage their work—we supported it. I’ve attended their fashion shows, and Vintage IT even sponsored one during SXSW.

But here’s where things get interesting. When one of our nonprofit clients needed help organizing a fundraiser, this employee used their styling expertise to pull off an incredible fashion show. Models walked the runway auctioning fine wines, and the event became the client’s most successful fundraiser yet.

This experience reinforced what I’ve always believed:

  1. Passion drives innovation. Employees who pursue their interests bring new energy and ideas to the workplace.
  2. Support creates loyalty. When businesses champion their people’s passions, it fosters a sense of community and trust.
  3. Fulfillment fuels performance. People who feel empowered in all aspects of their life show up as their best selves at work.

Whether you’re leading a team or building your career, passion projects aren’t a distraction—they’re an asset. They help us grow as individuals and bring unexpected value to our organizations.

At Vintage IT, we’ll continue to celebrate the unique passions of our team. Because when people thrive, businesses thrive.

Here’s to making 2024 a year of growth, creativity, and purpose.

Hollywood Records has released the cover version of the Gnarls Barkley song Crazy from the second season of the Hulu original series Tell Me Lies. The track (originally written by Brian Burton, Thomas Callaway, Gian Franco & Gian Pero Reverberi) produced the show’s composer Jay Wadley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Franklin, Swan Song, Fire Island) and performed by Cat Missal (who stars as Bree) and is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Also listen to the full song after the jump.
