How Parents Are Transforming Early Education in India
Remember your childhood - those cherished moments of bedtime stories, puzzles, and endless questions. These simple interactions laid the foundation for your learning journey long before you set foot in a classroom.
But this opportunity is only available to some children. Not all parents have the awareness, motivation, information, or resources to become part of their child's learning journey. This circumstance is more apparent in families where parents are daily wage workers and have limited or no formal education.
No wonder, in India, a staggering 40 million children cannot recognize a single letter or number by the time they reach second grade, despite access to free schooling for nearly 94% of them. This early setback often becomes a lifelong struggle.
We believe parents have the unique power to change this trajectory. They are their children's first responders, mentors, and guides who can set their children on a path to success. Our vision is to empower parents to unlock this potential.
We have developed an innovative solution that makes it simple and enjoyable for parents to engage with their children. Our activities nurture children's cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development.
Our results are impressive. In just two years, 80% of children in our program are now prepared for school, significantly improving from the typical rate of less than half. But a major part of the credit goes to the parents in our program who are dedicated to ensuring their children get to fulfil their dreams!
To celebrate their role in their children's journey, we are running a month-long campaign on our social channels that acknowledges parents' critical role in early childhood development by running challenges, sharing articles and impact stories, and encouraging parents to share their experiences. Stay tuned to learn about our upcoming webinar, "Decoding ECE's Strongest Link - Parents," to hear from ECE experts and parents from the communities we serve.

Policy Updates
In India, September signifies the initiation of "Poshan Maah," a dedicated month to raise awareness about nutrition. Last year witnessed a historic milestone when, for the first time, the central government incorporated early childhood education activities into Poshan Maah. This momentous policy shift, driven by our advocacy efforts, gave birth to the "Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi" initiative, which translates to "Nutrition Along with Education."
This year, once again, we supported the continuation of Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi as the theme for Poshan Maah. This inclusion reaffirms the profound interconnection between nutrition and early childhood education.
Our commitment extends further as we closely collaborate with the Ministry of Women and Child Development. We have helped the ministry develop a comprehensive roster of activities that has been widely disseminated to all states, significantly amplifying our reach and impact nationwide.
However, our work doesn't conclude here. We are creating instructional videos tailored to assist community daycare workers, known as Anganwadi workers. These videos will serve as invaluable guides, empowering these essential workers to conduct activities such as the "Early Childhood Care and Education Shapath," "Shiksha Choupal Learning Corners," and creating educational toys and learning materials.
Our collective efforts have yielded remarkable results. To date, we have supported the government in facilitating an astonishing 66.5 lakh activities nationwide.

“It should be no surprise that kids sometimes accidentally call their teachers mom or dad! Being a parent is like being a specialist, all-rounder, and a captain all rolled into one swiss-army knife of a life role! And through it all, our kids are learning from everything?we do, don't do, and make them do, said Murugan Vasudevan , CEO, Veddis Foundation , one of our early supporters.
“This is especially true in the pre-school years. The more we see the role of a parent as a child's first teacher, the more we will focus on building the right support for parents as they inspire and guide their children in their early years.”
