How the Pandemic has changed Customer Service

WHY has it taken a Pandemic, for certain businesses and establishments to value customers. We have always known that without our customers we do not have a business and without great customer service there is no growth in our business.
The reason for my sentiment is from experience based on more frequent calls from suppliers and service providers, greater attempts at making life easier and more convenient, competitive pricing and friendlier staff.
The Digital Era has been lurking around for a while and many of the successful E-commerce businesses have already built a name for themselves, being market leaders in the industry.
It almost feels like certain companies are now being forced to make life easier and more convenient for customers, when this was supposed to have been done in the first place.
Trust me, i am not complaining as better service is good for everyone. My only frustration is that this shouldn't be picked up or realized on the brink of danger to your business. Make no mistake, there are still a handful of companies out there that still feel they are doing you a favor, until they too become victims of circumstance.
In closing i would like to encourage businesses to take the first step, take initiative and innovate to make the customers lives easier. Your customers will appreciate your efforts and want to remain loyal to you and perhaps refer friends and family to your business.
