As the physical and digital spaces collide, the world needs the right connection to benefit. That’s what Panasonic is doing — not only creating and integrating technologies for a better human experience but also making sure the experience is personalized. Consumers and customers today expect brands to know them, to recognize their individual needs. Panasonic is meeting these high user expectations and moving us forward with new platforms and partnerships, evident during a lively briefing that kicked off #CES2019.
Speaking of Experiences
Panasonic is combining the physical with the digital by understanding more about how people live. This human-centric approach is the very foundation of creating personalized experiences. Executives spoke about a range of human insight technologies — from characteristic and physical stress sensing to emotion sensing. These technologies leverage the company’s expertise and learnings from its consumer electronics and home appliances businesses and can be used to improve safety on the road, support personal healthcare and enhance sports training.
Tom Gebhardt, CEO of Panasonic North America, touched upon a new, immersive experience partnership powered by Panasonic — the official projection technology of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.
Rounding out the consumer side, Panasonic continues to show its prowess in digital photography with a new Lumix camera that’s getting a lot of buzz from photography experts and enthusiasts. 10 years ago, the company pioneered the first mirrorless camera, and today it announced the world’s first full-frame mirrorless camera to support 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with LUMIX S1R and S1.
Connected Mobility
Panasonic continues to pave the way in mobility and fuel the transportation industry — from the air to the ground. With 60 years in automotive, the company is the market leader in electric vehicle batteries enabling the electrification of the drive train for a more modular approach.
It’s also the top supplier of infotainment systems to airlines. For example, NEXT is Panasonic’s innovative enterprise data cloud platform, enabling optimization of airline operations for an improved passenger experience.
The company’s groundbreaking work with the [tagging the organization] Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is the largest commercial-grade deployment of intelligent roadway in the US. So far, CDOT deployed 50 (soon to be 100) physical infrastructure sites along Interstate 70 corridor from Golden to Vail to capture connected vehicle data. Panasonic is also the first to incorporate 2-way radio communication and develop production-grade on-board units for automotive OEMs to evaluate their next-gen connected vehicles.
What’s more, Panasonic’s unique Cirrus SaaS intelligent transportation system (ITS) will bring smart roads to other states. A single dashboard will bring us to the next level of transport. Roadway operators will be able to log into one system to control traffic and camera management, data analytics, roadway technical services and weather data.
The Cutting Edge of Two Wheels
Of course, these systems and highly-connected vehicles are key to enabling autonomous driving, but Panasonic goes beyond four wheels and is revolutionizing the two-wheel experience. In partnership Van Dessel, bicycle choice of national champions, pro racers and Olympians, the new Gravel eBike and Mountain eBike were designed from the ground up around the new Panasonic GXO motor, which has top weight-to-torque ratio, tipping the scales at only 2.95 kilograms, while delivering 90 Nm of torque.
A ‘bike’ of another type, Panasonic rolled out the LiveWire electric motorcycle — the first cellular-connected mass market motorcycle in North America created in partnership with Harley-Davidson. The most connected motorcycle experience ever, it’s Harley’s first electric motorcycle and is designed especially for urban mobility and the burgeoning smart city environment.
