How to overcome your fears in 2022 for people who are afraid of writing

How I overcame my fear of writing - by writing about it.

For the longest time, I feared writing.

It sounds illogical because writing is just about coming up with words, right? For me, it brought back nightmares of long nights - me having a paper due the next day and the torture of hitting the 1,000-2,000 word minimum requirement. No matter how hard I tried, words did not come out. The struggle is real.

Do you have a fear that has been haunting you? Perhaps this year is the year where you confront it. This is undoubtedly not for the faint-hearted, and unfortunately, many people would not even try.

Fear is the power of the dark side.

If you are still sitting on the edge, here are some possible reasons why people never got to confront their fears.

  • Lack of self-confidence
  • Low self-esteem
  • Fear of failure
  • Anxiety

I have experienced all that, and here is how I fought off the procrastination monster and overcame my fear. And hopefully, you can too!

Step 1: Identify your limiting belief

As a trained computer engineer, I always thought my mind was wired to write code, not words. And it got to the point that I didn't even try.

I identified that this is my limiting belief and decided to remove it from my life.

Step 2: Seek out the masters

Many people think they need to learn things from scratch, which is daunting. I think there may be readily available resources online that can help you - i.e., someone has already done it. Learn from other people's experiences, seek out the experts.

That will shorten your learning curve and make taking the first step much more effortless.

Step 3: Make a public commitment

This is the scariest step but an essential one. Because by making this social commitment, you are more likely to take steps to overcome your fears. And you might be surprised by the amount of support you are getting from your network.

What is the fear you want to overcome this year? I wish you all the best!

I understand and totally relate... Writing has not been my strong point as well.. Taking cues from you, acknowledging and writing about it.. Baby steps! ??
