I don't think there's a person out there who hasn't dealt with the discouraging feelings of perfectionism or imposter syndrome before, especially when it comes to work.
Our desire to get things just right can get in the way of our finding success, learning something new, or even charging what we're worth. So what do you do when you lack the confidence to see yourself and your expertise clearly, especially when it's time to shift towards a new career that involves a different set of skills? Do you let imposter syndrome or the need to get things just right keep you stuck in place? Do you push past your insecurities and try something new, even if you have to do it scared? Or, do you zoom out and do a bit of a meta-level reframe, and maybe ask a different question or tell a different story that lets you see yourself, and this moment very differently?
On this week's SPARKED Podcast episode, we hear from featured listener Lily, who's ready to trade her post as a teacher for a new career that draws on another set of skills that she isn't quite confident in yet. So, anxious about feeling like a fraud in her new line of work, Lily writes in to ask:?
How do I build expertise in a new career while making a living when I don't feel that confident??
What we discover, together, is that confidence is sometimes as much about reckoginizing what we already have, as it is about developing new levels of competence.?
