How to Overcome Fear and Get What You Want from Life

One of the biggest destroyers of your goals and dreams is fear. Fear is a powerful emotion that may show up in a variety of ways spanning from loud and obvious to subtle or even stealthy. It’s an emotion that in its true intended form is meant to serve you, yet fear may also hinder or cause you to live in a perpetual state of disappointing mediocrity.

True fear serves as your internal warning system. When properly functioning, fear signals to you that what you are about to do is reckless or that you are at risk of potential mortal danger. In this sense, fear is an important inner resource that you’ll want to pay close attention to because it is specifically designed to keep you safe.

What I’m sharing with you today is what I refer to as “manufactured fear”. Manufactured fear is that gnawing, worrisome, and self-sabotaging inner voice that stifles you from taking action in support of your goals. When this kind of fear sets in and ultimately starts to take over, should you allow it to do so, it will straight up p*ss all over your dreams.

Whether personally or professionally, your goals and dreams are far too important for them to be derailed or outright bulldozed by this particular kind of malfunctioning subconscious programming.

Following are common types of manufactured fear, insights into various ways that manufactured fear presents itself, and my recommendations for empowering yourself and overcoming this kind of sneaky and sabotaging emotional trickery running amuck inside of you.

Common Types of Manufactured Fear

  • Fear of failure.
  • Fear of disappointing yourself or others.
  • Fear of what others might think.
  • Fear of disapproval from those you love / respect.
  • Fear of being rejected or abandoned.
  • Fear of success / changing your life.
  • Fear of the unknown.

Signs that Manufactured Fear is Setting In

Some of the common signs that manufactured fear is operating within your subconscious mind and putting your happiness, goals, and quality of life at risk include:

  • Procrastinating and wasting time on things that don’t support achieving your goals.
  • Doing nothing or allowing yourself to live in a never-ending state of limbo / “in-action”.
  • Listening to and believing negative inner dialogue about your ability to succeed.
  • Telling yourself that tomorrow you’ll start doing something in support of your goals …while deep down knowing full well that you won’t.
  • Believing or telling yourself that everything must first be perfect before investing in your passions, goals, and dreams.
  • Worrying unnecessarily about what others might think or say.
  • Waiting for someone else to give you a permission slip instead of empowering yourself to be the intentional creator of your reality.

Tips for Overcoming Manufactured Fear

It certainly can be frustrating and even downright soul-suckingly exhausting to want to manifest your goals and heart’s desires only to find your subconscious mind and limbic system, the emotional center of your brain, derailing you at every turn.

Following are some of my top recommendations for mitigating manufactured fear and setting yourself up to successfully achieve your goals:

  • Re-align and upgrade your thoughts. Unearth your limiting beliefs pertaining to your goals. Put each of your related limiting beliefs under the microscope and assess whether they are actually true …most likely not! Replace all of your faulty “head trash” with new empowered beliefs that directly support the kind of outcomes you desire.
  • Re-program your human operating system to success. Spend a few intentionally focused minutes each day powerfully visualizing you having achieved your goal as if it is your present moment reality. Amplify the benefits of this practice by tapping into the power of feeling high-frequency emotions like excitement, joy, deep fulfillment, etc. as you do so.
  • Re-commit and take action. Each day, give yourself a pep talk. Then take consistent and aligned action that brings you another step closer to achieving your goals / desired outcomes.
  • Regularly refer to your “compelling why”. In writing, document your big compelling why in relation to each of your goal(s). Refer back to this document to help keep you motivated and any manufactured fear at bay.
  • Re-empower yourself and resist giving in. Remember that you have goals and dreams for a reason. They are meant to be fulfilled for the benefit of yourself and others. Honor this sacred truth. When manufactured fear starts lurking, look that fear in the face and tell it to bugger off!

Bringing It All Together

When it comes to successfully achieving your goals and dreams, it pays to be mindful of any manufactured fear that may be standing in your way. Fear is only as powerful as you allow it to become. You can either let fear derail you and completely sabotage your success, or you can empower yourself to take charge of the outcomes in your life. Through self-awareness, commitment, and concerted efforts, your heart’s desires are yours for the receiving.
