Chemical Cleaning Service Rapidly Removes Scale and Restores Cooling Tower Performance
The Challenge
A large Glue manufacturing facility in the northern Emirates of UAE utilizes a cooling tower in their facility for the production of glue. Cooling tower is coming as a part of their long-standing process.
The cooling tower is used to reduce the temperature of the water, after the circulation through the process tank water jacket for the heat exchange. The cold water from the cooling tower will make a water jacket and helps for the heat exchange process around the process tank during the production process.
The hot water coming after the circulation through the heat exchange section (water jacket) had high levels of iron and other scale causing contaminants, resulting in extreme mineral scaling within the heat exchanger section and also in the cooling tower section. The scaling, which was approximately 0.5” thick, reduced the flow within the system. This created a bottleneck within the process, preventing the system from operating at its intended flow rate and forcing the operator to bypass the heat exchanger which degraded the treatment performance.?
Approximately 0.5” of scale was deposited on the surface of the cooling tower - heat exchanger section.

Chemical Service
Emvees Water Treatment services team evaluated the scaling issues within the cooling tower and recommended a chemical cleaning service for the system. Our team recommended for a solution to rapidly descale deposits within the cooling tower and connected piping.
Emvees chemical cleaning utilized EWC-142 & AQX-014 (an organo-modified blend of proprietary non-hazardous acids, surfactants, and anti-scaling agents). The chemical was pumped into cooling tower system and recirculated continuously to dissolve the scale and remove the accumulated deposits within the system.?
The rapid cleaning process was completed quickly resulting in minimal downtime of the cooling tower.
Results
The chemical cleaning service using EWC-142 & AQX-014 was extremely effective in dissolving the scale within the cooling tower and its extended piping.
It is estimated that there was more than 1.6 tons of scaling deposited inside the cooling tower and its extended piping, prior to the cleaning. This reduced the flow rate down to 10% of the expected flow rate. After the cleaning, the system is presently operating at higher efficiency with a higher flow rate.
The figure above shows how the rapid chemical cleaning service was able to remove virtually all of the scaling within all type of heat exchanger equipment’s.
