Running a small business is tough—especially when it feels like the online world is moving at light speed. Most small business owners find themselves juggling too much and getting too little in return. Sound familiar? Let’s break down the five biggest struggles and how to tackle them head-on.
1. Lack of Time
Between running the day-to-day operations of your business and keeping up with life, how much time do you have for social media? If we ignore all of the trends and all of the other frequent changes to each social media platform, figuring out what to post and creating those posts can take up time that could be used on other tasks, which results in a loss in terms of opportunity costs. If it takes you 20 Minutes each day that time adds up quickly, right?
What you could try is batching your content creation. Spend one day a month creating posts for the next 30 days. Use tools like Canva for design and Metricool for scheduling, so you can stay consistent without the daily grind.
2. No Clear Strategy
Posting for the sake of posting won’t grow your business. Sometimes we think something is better than nothing, in most cases that may be true, but it isn't a sound business strategy. Without a strategy, you’re just throwing spaghetti at the wall. Would you invest in a company's products or services who's gameplan was "just throw something up and hope it works?"
Instead, start with the basics. Who’s your audience (demographics)? Why are they or would they buy from you (psychographics)? What do they need? Create a content calendar that aligns with your business goals and makes creating a strategy a breeze.
3. Falling Behind on Trends
The online world moves fast and staying relevant feels impossible. (Remember when everyone was talking about how TikTok was "just for kids dancing"?) It can be easy to get left behind or lost in the rapid changes like Meta trying to move to subreption based etc.

4. Limited Skills or Resources
Social media, copywriting, graphic design—oh my! Doing it all is exhausting, and performing and learning about all of those tasks will likely not be as beneficial in comparison to tasks you can do to generate immediate income -especially if you are the owner!
If this sounds like you, delegate! Hire a professional who can handle the heavy lifting and bring your vision to life while you focus on your zone of expertise. 5. Inconsistent Engagement
Ghosting your audience (even unintentionally) is a growth killer. Not to mention the benefits of consistency when it comes to social media algorithms. Engagement builds trust, but it’s hard to keep up with comments and messages.
Schedule 15-30 minutes a day to reply to comments, answer DMs, and connect with your audience. If you don't have any comments or DM's, use that time to comment on related content or sending DMs to other brands. Small, consistent actions lead to big results.
