How our latest equipment investment has boosted throughput by 60%

Commercial Manager for Alutrade Ltd, the UK's largest independent recycler of aluminium extrusion.
We’ve recently invested in a Bonfigioli Squalo 2000 shear machine, which we imported from Mexico to replace our ten-year-old grinder mill.
?The £250,000 shear forms a key step within our pre-process long length extrusion handling. It crops down materials from six to seven metres in length to around 1.5 metres in 20 seconds, making it shred-ready.
However, while we’re using the shear to cut down extrusion, it’s doing the total opposite in relation to our operational outputs.?
Investing in the Bonfigioli has increased our productivity levels and capacity
The extrusion used to have to make three passes through our grinder mill to get it into a shredder-ready state. But now, it only has to go through the Bonfigioli once, maximising our throughput by 60%.
At the same time, we can also keep our skips freed up so that we can maintain our 48-hour window for collections.
Future-proofing our operations with wider equipment and fleet investments
We’ve also recently taken delivery of two DAF CF lorries, costing £135,000 each, and a £220,000 Atlas 200MH grab lorry.
This raft of equipment and fleet investment illustrates the fact we’re a business that’s fully committed to moving with the times and embracing the very latest advances, including our world-first sensor-based sorting solution.
