How Our AbbVie Principles Articulate What We Believe to Be Right and True

Since AbbVie became an independent company in 2013, we have grown and developed an identity that’s uniquely ours.

This identity did not come about by accident. It has been shaped by our 30,000 employees around the world. It has been shaped by the work we do, producing innovative medicines, continually investing in our pipeline, and giving back to our communities. Most of all, this identity has been shaped by the beliefs we share that have emerged organically since AbbVie began.

Throughout our evolution, the world has been changing as well. It’s more important than ever for us to be able to answer the questions: “What do we believe in? What do we stand for as a company?”

Introducing Our AbbVie Principles

With this in mind, we’re introducing our AbbVie Principles – a foundational description of what we believe in, what we stand for and what we represent as a company.

These Principles are driven by our compassion for people, commitment to innovation and inclusion, service to our communities and uncompromising integrity. They reinforce that, regardless of circumstance, we strive to always do the right thing.

Developing Our Principles

It all started when we decided we should define our Principles as a company. We spoke to AbbVie employees from all over the world who represent diverse functions, geographies and perspectives to understand what made them proud to work for AbbVie and what they believe AbbVie stands for.

Our Principles were generated based on this input – we carefully and thoughtfully refined every word and concept to ensure the principles accurately embody and reflect the beliefs of the people who make up AbbVie.

Underscoring the Importance of Our Principles

These principles are critically important because they clarify our identity as a company. They work in tandem with our existing frameworks – our mission, vision and culture – to describe who we are and how we operate.

Today’s workers are more likely to evaluate a prospective employer’s vision and principles when making decisions about employment and these Principles reflect our employees’ pride and confidence in AbbVie. They demonstrate that AbbVie is a place where you want to give your best effort to help make a remarkable impact on people’s lives. It’s a place where you can contribute to your community, collaborate with others to bring about innovative ideas and feel respected and included.

Sustaining Our Principles Going Forward

Our Principles are designed to be foundational, long-term and lasting – they’re built to stand the test of time because they each have an element we can see ourselves in.

I’m extremely proud of these Principles and what they mean for AbbVie – for our employees, our stakeholders and our patients. We created them as a company, and they will serve to unite us, inspire us and guide our decisions for years to come.

this is really inspiring, proud being part of AbbVie family!
