Let's say you have some To-Do list. You have 5 big tasks for today, and you think it will take you 3 days to finish it.
Then some "magic" happens and you finish then until noon. You have that experience, don't you?
So, what to do with the rest of your day?
There could be so many options:
- go to sleep,
- continue working,
- pretend you are working,
- watch TV,
- pick more tasks...
... or, take some time for thinking.
In today's world of hyper-connection and hyper-communication, an individual rarely devotes some time to STOP and THINK about his/her Why's.
And, why is that important?
Simply said, clarity. And the feeling of inner power.
When we give us time to be with ourselves, to think where are we going and about option and strategies we can apply, and about our why's, the feelings of pure clarity and inner strength starts emerging.
Still, there are so many distractions and interruptions that prevent us to have "our personal time".
So, here are a few tips on how to organize your "Thinking time".
1. Book an appointment with yourself and reserve a block of time for it. Literally take your calendar, pick a date this week and make a 1-hour appointment with yourself.
2. Find the best possible place. Is it your office, public library or a cool coffee shop? If the noises do not disturb you, pick a table in some cool caffe, and if it does, go to the public library or in the park. Maybe you can't believe it, but sometimes the option is to sit in your car, drive on some hill or in the woods or to some abandoned parking lot, and be there at appointment time.
3. Put your phone on flight mode, and even better leave it at home. Don't bring it with yourself. Yes, I know you disagree with that. I know that some people's phone is glued to their hand, but that is one of the main sources of distruction. Imagine how pleased you will be when you return to your beloved phone when you return from a meeting with yourself.
4. Bring a pen and notebook and handwrite! Yes, you heard me well. Pen & paper. There are so many useful mental exercises you can do with pen and paper. For this purpose, I'll mention just one, and that is Free Writing. Put your "mind" on the paper. Do not stop writing until you throw everything out. Write fast, write ugly, just keep on writing and dump it all.
