After a rather calm start to September, social networks are once again in full swing, things are happening everywhere this week!

  • YouTube copies TikTok again (CapCut): the video platform continues to take inspiration from ByteDance and launches a new app called “Create” (well done marketing team...), which is a c?o?p?y?/?p?a?s?t?e? similar to CapCut: it is therefore a free app for editing videos on mobile, available in beta on Android in the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Indonesia, India, South Korea, Singapore and France (iOS current 2024)
  • Launch of “Dream Screen”: a generative AI tool for Shorts, a new feature that will allow creators to generate images, videos and backgrounds with a simple prompt (planned for 2024)
  • “Creator Music”: also launch of a tool for AI-assisted soundtrack searches (planned for 2024)
  • As well as “Aloud”: new functionality which will allow creators to dub their audio content in other languages (planned for 2024)

  • Multiple profiles: Facebook will allow the creation and management of multiple user accounts, it will be possible to choose any name for the additional profiles, but not for the main profile, some think it is a genius idea, but wait and see when you know how messy it is to manage pages via Meta Business... and then apart from for marketers not to mix personal and professional, is there any real interest for creators?

  • Disable broadcast channel notifications: It is now possible to disable notifications for this brand new feature, which is rather useful for creators but which does not seem to be to the tastes of all their subscribers: a trend on the part of some users to turn off notifications without leaving the channel, the effect of too many notifications seems to stifle some
  • Instagram Reels Gifts: fans will be able to send "Gifts" to content creators directly from Reels, gifts are stickers that fans buy and send to creators, who can then convert it into revenue (same concept as stickers live on TikTok), it’s happening in several countries (list here)
  • Welcome Video on Broadcast Channels: Instagram added an option for Broadcast Channels called “Welcome Video”, a video will automatically be sent to new members

  • Paying for Twitter (???): Elon Musk announced that he plans to put Twitter / X behind a paywall in order to counter fake accounts (bot accounts), knowing the bro there is a way that this is just an announcement effect to see how users would react if that were the case (and they reacted very badly), but no other official statement yet.
  • The social network has shared the next changes to come, here are the main ones:

- Long blog posts

- Video calls

- Money transfers between users

- Creator subscriptions

- Product listings in the app

- Sharing advertising revenue with creators

- Jobs

  • TikTok Shop soon to be banned in Indonesia: the functionality is only arriving in the West but it is already extremely popular in Asia, so disruptive that the government is talking about outright banning social commerce in general on social networks because it would represent a threat to other businesses

How to Optimize Your YouTube Shorts? ?? Tip 2/5

We continue this new series of advice on the short format of YouTube, and given the latest updates from last week, it is obvious that investing in this format is the right time.

As a reminder, as I announced to you last week, I have decided to shorten the format of the newsletters, particularly the Pro Advice part.

Since my main objective is to bring you value while saving you time.

So enough blabbering in the intro: let's go! ??♀

Quality over quantity? Really ? ??

Just a year ago, we were still hearing the following advice:

We don't care about the quality, given the tons of content and the limited attention span of the audience, you have to post as much stuff as possible to be visible.

Then since the start of this year, the opposite advice has predominated:

There's so much content, no one sees anything anymore, it's better to post a little, but quality content to stand out from the crowd.

I don't think either of these two advice is valid. ??♀?

Based on all the content I produce, and all the creators I interact with, my advice on this subject: it all depends on the case and especially the level at which your media is.

Concerning the case of Shorts, here is the current advice: if you start with this format, your first objective is to become visible, so initially post very regularly.

Come on, I know you're going to ask me for an average: so aim for once a day.

And then you're going to tell me: But are you crazy? I don't have time to edit a video a day, what's wrong with you bro!

?? Shorts = Stories

So yes, obviously it will depend on the type of content you publish, but understand one thing: consider the Short format as an equivalent of Instagram Stories.

Already in terms of quality, it is not a format for which the audience expects a professional final result, unlike the long format of classic YouTube videos.

Then in terms of lifespan: you will quickly realize (if you haven't already) that 99.99% of your Shorts will get most of its views in the first 24 hours.

And then nada, nothing more... ??

This doesn't mean that your Shorts will never be seen again over time, but it's very unlikely.

Why? Because YouTube's algorithm most likely works like TikTok's.

Meaning that he will highlight your video during the first hours after you posted it, and he will judge the behavior of the audience.

And depending on the reaction he will decide whether to continue to highlight it or not.

Ok, but where am I going with the initial advice which is to post regularly, every day if possible?

This simply means that you shouldn't worry about the quality of your video.

Re-posting key moments from one of your long videos for example, it's quick to do, and you can plan your publications in advance.

Otherwise, if your thing is to only do short formats, in this case focus on creativity, and publish a little less, 3 to 4 times a week.

Then when you start to have a larger audience in this format, you can consider reducing the frequency and increasing the quality of your Shorts.

So if you have followed my development carefully: my advice is not to publish crap** in quantity, but not to worry at the beginning, because your Shorts will get few views at the beginning and will die fast.

?? Your first goal is to post regularly ??

And in step 2: you can review your strategy once you have gained your audience.

That's it for the 2nd tip of this new series on optimizing YouTube Shorts.
