How to optimize your LinkedIn profile in JUST 2 weeks!

How to optimize your LinkedIn profile in JUST 2 weeks!

A keyword-optimized profile is the surest way to be found by your prospects. I wish it was also the simplest.

Since the last couple of weeks, I'd been trying to figure it out for my own profile. The reason being, it was appearing in search results for keywords that:

a) didn't match my skills &

b) were so diverse that it was almost misleading.

I knew I'd to get it fixed.

That got me to run so many permutations & combinations on it to test what worked & what didn't. Finally this week, I got it right & now I'm here to share it with you.

But first, here are the stats:

As it is evident from the stats, there is a clear difference in the keywords I was found a week before as compared to the ones I was found for this week.

This week's keywords exactly match my profile and represent what I do. Plus, unlike the previous week, I'm not getting tagged to any keyword that is not relevant to my work.

And finally, below is the latest stat as of 13th August 2021:

So now the question is, how did get these results? That too in just one week!

Truth be told, although it might look that it took me one week's time to show the results but in reality, I've been trying different permutations & combinations to get it just right.

In this blog, I'll highlight two areas that I believe create the most impact in LinkedIn profile optimization & have made me be found for my desired keywords.

Let's get started!

  1. Heading: The headline is one space that should not just tell about what you do, whom you help & how but also should be the top place to start your keyword optimization with. Try to encompass all your top skills-related keywords in an engaging manner.

  1. Experience Section: Yes, this, I believe this the biggest game-changer in my opinion. Since until I'd not gotten this taken care of, my profile was seen to be found for many such keywords that didn't truly represent me. And my inability to not have this section optimized has cost me so many relevant views from people who could have been looking for my services or many connection opportunities. But better late than never. I finally did it & it's all good.

Here's how I optimized the experience section on my profile & you can too!

  • Removing all the irrelevant experience: Eg. Those medieval age internships I did in design organizations that I did 10 years back and until recently had spoken eloquently about in my experience section. The truth is, that experience might not give me an edge in my current work profile, at least not in any quantifiable way. If anything, it's just going to get me tagged for the wrong keywords.

  • Optimize the headings in the experience section: You must be thinking, why and how should I optimize my headings in the experience section, and yet I assure you, this is the most important step that got me the quickest result. Let me tell you why.

But before that, trust me, by doing so I don't mean to put fake, unrelated, misleading titles. Not at all. What I do mean is that in this section keep your titles precisely & very thoughtfully.

Back to the why, here's the deal:

During my trials & errors over the last month, I figured that LinkedIn picks up the last letters from your designations mentioned in the experience section & optimizes your profile extensively based on that.

This becomes all the more important if you have switched your career and/or career field like me. From a designer to a marketer to a health & wellness writer.

How has it helped me?

Speaking strictly in terms of numbers, it took my profile from 66 search appearances/ week to 95 search appearances/ week. This exercise combined with my consistent quality content posting has got me, +156 new followers, just in the last week. I see it as great weekly progress.

It's Time!

So, there you go! I've spilled the beans & over to you now. Do give these tips a try. Hope they work for you as well as they worked for me (or even better). And if they do, don't forget to let me know :)

As I'm ready to go now, I'll leave you with this thought:

No optimization can beat the power of posting quality content consistently. It is the most effective way to boost your enagement, increase your reach and build your authority in your domain.

One more thing before I go:

How to check the top keywords your profile is found for in LinkedIn search results?

Step 1: Go to your profile

Step 2: Click on the Search Appearance

Step 3: Scroll down the page that comes in front & you'll find a heading-

?????? ???????????????? ?????? ???????? ?????????? ??????

This is it!

This will keep on changing every week. So to keep a track of it, visit this page option.

It will give you many more insights other than the top keywords your profile is found for such as:

  • No. of times your profile appeared in search results in the past week
  • What your profile searchers do

Here's what people who tried & benefitted from the above strategies say
