Why Do You Need a Bio?
Let’s talk about you! Who are you? What do you do? What services are you offering? These are all questions that your audience needs to know. After all, first impressions are everything!
So before we get into how to optimize your bio for social media, let’s talk about WHY you need to do this.
Simply put, you need to do this because your audience doesn't know you from Adam! They are looking to you to tell them about yourself so they don’t have to do the digging. Without giving your life story, telling them in a clear concise way who you are, what you do, and why you have the solution to their problem is going to help them trust you, build your reputation and increase your credibility and community.
More than just adding a little info about yourself here, you also need to make sure that you are doing so in a clear concise way and optimizing your information. Optimizing your bio to its fullest potential will make it more effective at communicating the right message to your audience, and will give them the incentive to follow you and become a part of your online community.
What Should I Include in my Bio?
Each social media platform comes with its own set of rules and restrictions when it comes to entering your bio. But the key here is to stay consistent. So while your bio will be unique to each platform’s specifications, keep them as similar as possible so as not to confuse people.?
However, if you find that your audiences seem completely different from platform to platform, it’s okay to customize them a bit to who you are speaking to.
Where Do I Start?
Sitting down to write a bio (even though it’s good to keep it short and sweet) can be overwhelming. How do you include so much info into such a concise couple of sentences?
Coming up with a one-liner to get the juices flowing is a great place to start. This gives you a small amount of copy to work with on platforms that don’t allow much room, and a base to expand upon for those that allow more info.
There are three steps you should follow in order to nail down your one-liner.
