Edward Rogers is Taking Over Canadian Sports
Edward Rogers, executive chairman of Rogers Communications , was already the top dog in Toronto sports.
Now, his position is cemented.
Just last week, Rogers Communications reached an agreement to acquire Bell 's 37.5% stake in MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership) for $3.5B.
The deal plays into Rogers’ long-standing strategy to build out its sports empire and gives Rogers majority control of all of Toronto’s major sports teams.
The Rogers sports portfolio now includes:
Bottom Line: In spending $14.5 billion over the last decade on sports, Rogers has cornered the Toronto sports market. If not already, the Rogers name will become synonymous with sports in Canada.
Can Julien Alfred Double St Lucia’s Economy?
This Friday, Saint Lucia will celebrate “Julien Alfred Day” to honor the accomplishments of the World’s Fastest Woman.
Along with bringing her home country their first Olympic gold, she claimed the top prize in the 100m at the Wanda Diamond League Final earlier this month.
Alfred plans to channel her recent financial gains into investments in St. Lucia. Specifically, she’s pushing for a new stadium.
And she’s not alone.
Among key questions asked at a recent regional economic retreat: What would it take to double Saint Lucia’s economy in 10 years?
Dr. Timothy Antoine, Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank , urged the country to leverage sports as a channel for economic growth through sports tourism.
Like Alfred, Governor Antoine emphasized the need for better sporting infrastructure at a national and community level.
Bottom Line - Julien Alfred has quickly become one of the most celebrated athletes in track and field, and her journey is far from over. If the 23-year-old can continue her success, Saint Lucia is poised to reap the economic benefits for years to come
Interest Rate Cuts to Benefit Sports Teams and Fans
The Fed cut its interest rates by half a percentage point, surpassing widespread expectations of a quarter-point reduction.
This benefits the entire sports ecosystem, from teams to fans.

For teams with major capital projects, lower rates mean cheaper refinancing.
For fans, they will have more disposable income for travel, tickets, and merchandise.
Bottom Line: High interest rates have impacted both stadium renovations and fan spending. Lower borrowing costs now offer more flexibility, boosting team revenues and, historically, franchise values.
The Future of Sports Travel – High-Speed Rail
High-speed rail has been a growing trend worldwide, but the U.S. has been slow to adopt it. Brightline Trains is aiming to change that.
With over 50 million annual trips between Las Vegas and Southern California, Brightline West Trains hopes to shift a large portion of that traffic to high-speed rail—just in time for the Los Angeles Olympics.
The new route is even more ambitious than Brightline’s Florida service, which has operated since 2018. The Vegas-to-L.A. route will be faster (up to 75 mph more) and fully electric.
Brightline recently shared renderings of a “party car” concept, featuring lounge seating and a bar, perfect for tailgating.
Bottom Line: In Florida, the company offers targeted service to Miami Heat NBA games, Inter Miami MLS games and college sporting events. The planned Vegas-to-L.A. route could soon serve as the premier interstate people mover for sporting events.
City of Ontario Announces 200-Acre Sports Complex
Set to open in fall 2026, the Ontario Sports Empire is positioned to become a go-to venue for major regional and national tournaments, elevating the City of Ontario as a key sports destination in the United States.
Project highlights include:
The venue will be located 10 minutes from Ontario International Airport in an area with 6,000 hotel rooms and numerous entertainment options, offering players and fans everything they need.
Bottom Line: The “recession-proof” nature of youth sports has communities across the country reinventing themselves as youth sports travel destinations. With 190 acres of top-tier athletic facilities, the new sports complex will be the largest of its kind west of the Rocky Mountains.
