How One Kiip Employee Rose From Taskrabbit to VP

About four years ago, a recent college grad was hired at Kiip as an Administrative Intern. Four years later, that same administrative intern has been promoted six - that's right - six times, most recently to Vice President of Operations. So how does someone start in admin, become a VP, and even get married during just a few short years?

When Corrigan came on at Kiip as an intern, he had just moved to San Francisco with his girlfriend (now wife), to work in an industry he knew nothing about, at a company whose product he barely understood, for a job he found in a craigslist ad.

Corrigan rose the ranks at Kiip at an insane pace-- from Administrative Intern to Administrative Assistant to Campaign Operations Lead/Ad Operations Manager to Director of Ad Operations to Senior Director of Ad Operations to VP of Operations.

Rising within a company so fast doesn’t happen to everyone. If you ask anyone in the company, he is their go-to for any question. He is an impactful force at Kiip, with incredible character and the ability to cope with a crisis. “Corrigan is so calm about everything” is what you'll hear. He is very intuitive and can identify roadblocks and quickly ideate solutions for how to fix them and move around them.

Even crazier, he actually noticed the engineering team getting bogged down with small issues so frequently that he learned how to code on the side. That is amazing.

There is also something to be said about Corrigan’s timeliness as a major factor. It's worth mentioning that he is almost always the first one in the office (by a long shot), coming in around 6 a.m., which is unheard of in Silicon Valley.

I asked Corrigan what his advice would be to young professionals who are in the same position as he was four years ago, and looking to rise in the ranks and to make an impact. I'm excited to share those with you below!

  1. Don’t be afraid to fail

“It is intimidating and scary when you are given responsibilities, but in a startup environment, the key thing to keep in mind is that no one is truly qualified. The industry is so fluid and changing that everyone is constantly learning and developing their skills to match the trajectory of the industry.”

2. Put in the time

“You have to be willing to go above and beyond with everything you do. This stems from a necessary passion in your work no matter how small the task. When a new task comes up, the attitude has to become ‘Yes, I can do that.’ People pick up on that.”

From the years I’ve gotten to know Corrigan I can honestly say these are only the tip of the iceberg of the principles he's mastered to become such a core part of the company. Go above and beyond, and show up.

I've always been an advocate for vertical and horizontal movement. You can move vertically by outpacing others, and horizontally by constantly learning. This is how you can go from TaskRabbit to VP. Corrigan is a true Kiiper.
