A couple of weeks earlier, I was on a short road trip with 3 of my friends to a hillside location. The mood was festive, and we were enjoying the vibrancy of nature, taking pictures at pit stops and stopping at random places on the way to experience local flavors at our destination. The overnight rain turned the breeze cool, making us crave for some tea and snacks. We stopped at a small shop, a little hut-like shack on the roadside and ordered 4 cups of tea. A few minutes later, we were sipping tea, warming up, and looking around to see nature at its best. Now, it was time for us to pay for that amazing tea and leave. The total cost was 20, and I handed over a 100 to the guy running the shop. He denied having change. Two of my friends started looking for some change in their wallets but couldn’t find any. The moment we turned our faces towards the guy at the shop, we heard him say - it’s done! Wait. What?
Another friend who was standing close to the man running the shop turned around, walked over to us and said – “I just paid through a UPI app directly in his bank account using his mobile number.” We knew how this worked and we have used some of the popular digital wallets to pay our bills, but we never imagined that such a small shop owner could be using it.
That’s the power of on-demand apps; they’re transforming the lives of people who are using them. The on-demand economy has helped technology companies to thrive on customer demand by providing immediate solutions to their needs. For people living in metro cities, on-demand app-based services have made their lives much easier. Everything from hailing a quick cab to the delivery of food and groceries, booking movie tickets, requesting utility repair services, salon services and more has brought a great deal of convenience in everyone’s life. Without a doubt, On-Demand Economy is revolutionizing the way we are living and transacting every day. It has gradually penetrated deeper and is moving into the hands of larger masses: not just in urban and suburban regions.
Highly popular mobile apps like Uber are controlled by billions of dollars in funding. Other on-demand apps from different categories, such as Airbnb and Netflix, are also growing at an exponential rate.
The technology bundled with innovation and configured according to consumer demands and behavior is the driving force behind the on-demand economy. Here are the factors identified through a survey that triggered the growth of the on-demand services. This study provides insight into the consumers’ behavior in the fastest growing online market – China.

In another survey, not just in China but also in other parts of the world, showed the driving factors contributing to the success of On-Demand apps were evaluated and the “convenience of delivery” found to be in the top spot.

Every day, hundreds or even thousands of new on-demand app ideas are brought to the table by the best minds across the world, backed up by promising decision makers, Angels, and tech giants, to become the next “Uber of X”. The on-demand services, such as grocery shopping, salon services, laundry pickup, food delivery, and cab booking, are live examples that demonstrate the transformation of businesses across the world with the efforts of mobile app developers.
On-demand service apps have transformed businesses into fast-moving technology companies. Due to the potential and profits attached to it, an enormous number of companies have popped up globally and thus created highly competitive markets.
Through on-demand apps, consumers are looking for things that satisfy their needs instantaneously. Businesses can no longer make customers wait for their products or services.
