How Often Should You Really Change Your Sheets?

As we aim to achieve the recommended 8 hours of sleep every night, the time spent in bed adds up! In fact, it adds up to spending nearly one-third of our lives in bed. With so much time spent in bed, maintaining a clean, comfortable sleep space is key to getting the best from your sleep. It also leads us to ask–how often should you really wash your sheets and clean your mattress?

According to the Sleep Foundation, most people should wash their sheets at least once per week. But, if you sleep with pets or get hot at night, you may need to wash your sheets more frequently. Maintaining a regular washing regimen helps reduce the buildup of dirt, sweat, pollen, and oils, which could impact allergies, skin issues, and asthma. Pro Tip: Keeping more than one sheet set on hand is a great way to expedite the sheet-changing and washing process. This way, you can remove and wash your dirty sheets and put a fresh pair on immediately.

In addition to your bedding, it's also essential to care for your mattress and refresh it regularly. Depending on the usage of your bed, we recommend cleaning it once or twice a year. Again, this may vary if you sleep with pets or sleep warmer at night. Gently vacuuming your mattress is a great way to remove any dust or other buildup.
